COVID-19 International Travel Guidance

Guidance for anyone planning to participate in a Study Abroad program or university-related international travel during the COVID-19 p和emic.

Approval Process for International Travel

的 health, safety 和 security of UMKC 学生 is our top priority. At this time, UMKC requires all university-related travel to be reviewed 和 approved.

Anyone hoping to participate in a Study Abroad program or university-related international travel, including 学生 who have received approval from their academic departments, are required to submit an International Travel Policy Exception Request Form (PDF)International Travel 和 Risk Assessment Committee (ITRAC).

We are using these indicators to review the feasibility of all Study Abroad programs on a case-by-case basis.

  • Travel notices 和 advisories from the Centers for Disease Control 和 Prevention 和 U.S. 国务院 
  • COVID-19 case metrics
  • U.S. citizenship or coming from the United States
  • Host universities 和 organizations that are accepting U.S. 学生
  • Coverage by UM System insurance
  • Visa, if applicable, has been issued

Knowing that travel restrictions 和 other guidance can change unexpectedly 和 may alter your travel plans, you should make backup plans for the 2021/22 academic year.

Considerations for Study Abroad Students

Cancellation or deferment

You will be notified by your UMKC email account if your study abroad program is canceled or altered. If your program is canceled or you are not able to participate, you should work with an advisor to defer to a later semester, find an alternative program or withdraw your application.

COVID-19疫苗接种

We strongly recommend getting a COVID-19疫苗接种, but it is not required for participation in Study Abroad programs or university-related international travel. Some visa applications or a partner institution may require proof of COVID-19疫苗接种.

Restricted travel notices

Check whether your destination has restricted travel from the United States 和 if it is processing requests for student or research visas (if applicable). This information is usually available on the websites of the appropriate U.S. embassy 和/or consulate 和 foreign embassy/consulate.

On-campus course enrollment

Schedule an appointment with your UMKC academic advisor to enroll in courses on campus in case your program is canceled. You may drop the courses if your program will operate as scheduled.

退款政策

You are bound by the host institution or affiliated provider's cancellation 和 refund policies regarding withdrawal from your Study Abroad program, which may prevent you from receiving a refund even if you withdraw before the beginning of the program. It is your responsibility to be familiar with 和 abide by all refund policies for your Study Abroad program.

UMKC Study Abroad Globetrotter Portal administrative fee is nonrefundable.

Financial protection

UMKC is unable to assist you financially in the event that your program is canceled or to provide financial reimbursement for any additional costs you may incur, including the cost of return travel or quarantine. 的se items may help protect your financial investment if your program is canceled.

  • Do not purchase plane tickets or make other nonrefundable financial commitments until after you have received a final acceptance decision from UMKC 和 your host university or program provider
  • Only purchase flights that offer refunds or flexible travel dates
  • Buy travel insurance.
  • Use a travel agency that can provide in-person support
